Bayern Hoping To Build On Impressive Start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bayern have been in excellent form throughout this calendar year, and when the Champions League resumed at the beginning of August, there was a strong feeling that they would be too difficult to beat. That prediction turned out to be true as they steamrolled Barcelona on the way to the final<\/a>. Thiago Alcantera and Philippe Coutinho may both have left the club over the summer months, but their form has still been solid in 2020-21 to this point. Bayern have scored eleven goals in their last three games in all competitions, and they come into this Champions League fixture having beaten Arminia 4-1 in their last Bundesliga game. Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski both scored two goals each in that win, and there will be expectancy that there will be more goals for the attacking players in this fixture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atletico\u2019s Stuttering Start To The Season<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Atletico are currently sitting in eighth place in the league standings in La Liga, but they ended a run of two consecutive 0-0 draws in their last league game. It was a long 180 minutes without a goal for Atletico going into this recent fixture against Celta Vigo, but they quickly amended that in the opening ten minutes away from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atletico took the lead after just six minutes in that recent game on the road, as Luis Suarez scored his third goal for the club in just four appearances. Atletico were able to hang on to that lead for much of the game, and finally doubled their advantage in the final seconds when Yannick Carrasco scored the second. It was far from a vintage performance by Atletico, and there is a sense that there is still a long way to go. However, Diego Simeone\u2019s side have made a name for themselves at the expense of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, and Bayern will be wary of that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will be the first time that these two sides have met since the 2015-16 season. In that season, Atletico won their home game, and Bayern won their fixture that was played at the Allianz. Both games ended in a 1-0 win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
