Before Betting on Yankees vs Red Sox Aug 14
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox play the rubber match of their three game series on Sunday Night Baseball from Fenway Park. The Red Sox took the opener 3-2 on Friday night and New York returned the favor in another low scoring 3-2 victory on Saturday. The win in game two snapped a three game slide for the Yankees, who had dropped 8 of 9 prior to that overall.
New York is 7-5 vs. Boston this season and 13-6 in the last 19 head to head games dating back to last season. The two defensive battles so far this series have been somewhat surprising considering that the previous five Yankees vs Red Sox games in Boston had gone ‘over’ the total as had seven consecutive meetings overall.
Michael Wacha (6-1, 2.69 ERA) will try to keep the New York offense sputtering but he’d be wise to pitch around Anthony Rizzo, who has is hitting .447 in nearly 50 career ABs vs. the St. Louis pitcher. Wacha hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the month of June, making a couple of minor league starts recently as he battles back from right shoulder inflammation.
Jameson Taillon (11-2, 3.95 ERA) shoots to give the Yankees the series win as they wrap up what is currently a 2-6 road trip. New York heads home after this game but for visits from Tampa Bay, Toronto, and the Mets – all current playoff teams – so it’s going to continue to be a tough stretch. The good news is the Yankees have won 11 of Taillon’s last 14 starts so they have value on the offshore odds Sunday night.

What makes the Yankees vs Red Sox game tough for Boston is that we don’t know what to expect from Wacha in his first MLB start in six weeks. When you combine that with a decent price on New York the Yankees look like the play.
