Before Betting On Zhilei Zhang vs Deontay Wilder

A massive night of boxing action is set for the first weekend in June, as stars from the Matchroom and Queensberry stables will collide in Saudi Arabia. One of the shock bouts that was announced for the card will see Deontay Wilder make his return to the ring to take on Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang in the Middle East.

Wilder’s decision to join Eddie Hearn’s team was a shocking turn of events, but it only furthers the claims that the former world champion is set for a major fight with Anthony Joshua in late 2024. However, there will be pressure on the former WBC champion in the Middle East at the start of June, as he has now lost three of his last four fights.

Two of those defeats were suffered against Tyson Fury, but he made an unsuccessful return to the ring in late 2023 after being beaten by unanimous decision by Joseph Parker. That defeat halted the prospect of the American fighting Anthony Joshua in the near future, but this bout with Zhang presents him with a chance to get back on track.

Zhang will also be looking to get his career back on track after suffering two defeats in his last four bouts. The most recent of those was also suffered against Parker, which saw him lose the WBO interim title. But, the Chinese star remains one of the most talented heavyweights, evidenced by his back-to-back victories against Joe Joyce last year.
